This is a list of interests I’ve focussed on over the years. Some of these I cycle back to regularly, and some are relatively short (but may cycle back around again).
Amsterdam
The history of my current city, its politics, and how it has evolved and is evolving.
Art
Psychogeography and Situationist International. Particularly Dérive as I like to walk across cities rather a lot.
Design, particularly Experimental Jetset.
Cinema
Cinéma vérité (particularly Frederick Wiseman, the Maysles, Robert Drew, and D.A. Pennebaker).
Queer Theory / Horror Films. Sex and the other in horror films.
Culture/Human Behaviour
LGBTQIA+ with a focus on the experiences of gay (cis) men from the 1950s through to the 1990s.
Cultural Anthropology. Particularly modern and contemporary culture.
Cults/Religions (and conspiracy theories). These topics more broadly, and specifically reading a lot of books published by Feral House.
Psychedelics (particularly their relationship with cults/religions) and the contemporary history of psychedelics, its crossover with the development of the internet (and Web1), and the cat and mouse game of regulation and enforcement.
Agricultural policies in the UK. Particularly the debates around fox hunting, badger culling, and post-Brexit international trade and food security policies.
British Politics. I find UK politics (Westminster) particularly fascinating, and the relationship with devolution with the constituent countries, as well as the debates over Scottish independence.
Discordianism
The KLF.
Robert Anton Wilson
William S. Burroughs
Drafting / Productivity
GTD systems and productivity hacks.
Legal drafting.
The process of writing.
Legal
If you want to see the list of my experience and publications, go to the Portfolio page. These are other interests possibly not captured there.
Feminist Legal Theory. I focussed on this during law school with the excellent Zipporah Wiseman as a professor and wrote a paper on the intersection of upskirting and privacy law. This also of course crossed over with my long standing interest in LGBTQIA+ experiences as set out above.
Drug policy generally. Particularly the growing body of law on regulation of cannabis in the United States and the conflict between state approaches and the federal approach.
Oil and Gas. The contracts around exploration and land rights are particularly interesting and complex (and being from Texas, there is a lot of interesting items to explore.
Tax and immigration in relation to international employee mobility. This is a very niche legal hobby, but I enjoy reading and researching the tax incentive schemes and residency and/or naturalisation requirements for various countries, mostly in Europe.
Tattoos
I collect tattoos, particularly when I travel. I also wrote an article about tattoos and copyright law awhile back.
YMMV. Last updated on:
