Teaching Experience

A large part of being a consultant and a lawyer involves presenting and educating people about the law and its impact. I’ve helped people at companies and organisations both large and small go from little understanding of the law and its impact to a deep appreciation of the legal issues involved.

Beyond this type of teaching, I’ve also assisted or taught on more formal University level courses on IP and technology law, including (in reverse chronological order):

International Intellectual Property, University of Strathclyde.  Designed and built a distance learning Masters level course (LLM) on international IP, including copyright, patent, trademark and issues such as IP and international trade and the intersection of IP and human rights.

IP and Entrepreneurship, 2007/08, University of Edinburgh. IP law and related legal information for an online course in entrepreneurship for current staff and students.

Intro to Legal Studies and the Western Legal Tradition, 2007/08, University of Edinburgh, School of Law Reorganise, edit, source material, and add content for ongoing introduction to legal research and the UK legal system for LLM and CPD students via distance learning.

Open Source and Open Content, December 2007, University of Southampton. Invited to teach sessions in IT law courses on open source and open content at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Public Law and New Technologies, Semester 1, 2007/08, University of Edinburgh, School of Law Research assistant on sourcing materials for a new on-campus module on the impact of emerging technologies, in particular ICTs, on traditional areas of public law in the UK for Mr. Navraj Singh Ghaleigh.

Introduction to the US legal system, April 2007, University of Edinburgh, School of Law Designed and implemented a short self-study e-learning course on the legal system of the United States for on campus and distance learning students and staff in order to familiarise them with the basics of US law.

International Intellectual Property Law, Semester 1, 2006/07, University of Edinburgh, School of Law Assisted on the design and implementation of a course on the international aspects of intellectual property law via distance learning with Dr. Waelde. Guest tutor on course.
